IPL hair removal with SHR technology is my cosmetic light treatment for hair reduction at Isabels Beauty Club in Munich-Laim. Gentle light pulses are absorbed by the pigment in the hair; with the cooled, gliding SHR treatment head most people feel a pleasant sensation of warmth. Session by session, hair growth becomes noticeably less and finer.
The honest framing matters to me: hair grows in cycles, which is why several sessions about four to six weeks apart are needed. How completely hair growth recedes is individual and depends on skin, hair and hormones; a complete stop of every single hair cannot be guaranteed. Dark areas of skin, moles and tattoos are left out, and sun protection is important before and after the treatment.
How a session works
Before the session the zone is shaved. I glide the cooled SHR treatment head over the skin; the light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and felt as a pleasant sensation of warmth. I leave out dark areas of skin, moles and tattoos. I match the intensity to skin and hair.
Why several sessions are needed
Hair grows in cycles – at each appointment only the currently active hairs respond, which is why we work in several sessions about four to six weeks apart. Hair growth becomes less and finer session by session; a complete stop of every single hair cannot be guaranteed.
Suitable for
- Anyone who would like to noticeably reduce hair growth
- Darker hair on lighter skin, which responds particularly well
- Anyone who would like to reduce the endless cycle of shaving and waxing
Not suitable / caution
- Freshly tanned or sunburnt skin
- Very light, blond, red or grey hair, which barely responds
- Tattoos and very dark areas of skin in the area – are left out
- Pregnancy – please consult beforehand
After the treatment
- In the days before and after, avoid sun, tanning bed and self-tanner
- Use consistent sun protection
- Between sessions only shave, do not epilate or wax
